“Will there be a sequel to…?”

I often get asked whether there will be a sequel to this or that story. As visitors or customers of Amazonias know, I have single stories and series. Some series go on for quite some time (there are few series of eight or more episodes, and Katie, exceptionally counts over 25!), but at some point they are finished.

Even though the characters grow on me during writing (and maybe on you during reading), I always finish the series at some point, for several reasons. One is that I have so many ideas for stories, and sometimes I can’t wait to get to the next one.

But I don’t want to have too many stories going on at the same time, because that’s not good for my focus, and it would mean you have to wait too long for a new episode. So that’s a reason to close a series once in a while.

Another reason to finish series at some point is that people who are not interested in a series (for some reason), get the chance to pick up on another, new series. Maybe some customers also don’t want to buy into an eight part series, and then keeping it stretch on and on won’t get them on board with the series.

One thing I’ve done with characters I like is to bring them back in other series. Marjorie (of the Amber & Julian series) pops up in Muscle Therapy, and Eleonore (from Muscle Therapy) features in a couple of episodes of Sophie’s Property. What I’m also thinking of is maybe at some point to *restart* a series, in the sense that I build a new independent storyline with characters from an existing series, but so that people don’t need to have read the previous parts. For instance, I like Gillian and Robbie (Hot Summer), and could imagine at some point starting a new series with them, in which I repeat a bit of the back story, but basically anyone can start from there.

Gillian and Robbie

I do realize that at the moment of writing this I have several series still open. My plan is to finish them all, at some point. You may need a little patience 🙂

Thanks for reading!
